Wallpapers: Butcherbirds

Though similar to Ravens and Crows in many ways, Butcherbirds are a unique class of birds endemic to Australia and are more closely related to songbirds than corvids.

Famously intelligent and curious, Australian Magpies have a reputation for being aggressive to humans. Such behaviour is actually quite rare, and is believed to be caused by the birds enduring a traumatic incident involving humans. Our local Magpies are actually quite friendly, as long as you're not a Currawong.

All of the birds depicted on this page were happy and healthy at the time that they were photographed. All subjects are uncaged and wild, unless otherwise noted.
