A call for Moderators
A call for Moderators
Hi all,
As you may have noticed, the spam-bots have found this forum. I make sure to kill spam threads and ban the bots as soon as I become aware of them, but I'm only one man. So I'm looking for a few volunteers (forumers in good standing) to help keep things clean while I'm working/sleeping/playing games.
If you're interested, please send me a PM.
David

Re: A call for Moderators
Thanks to charles and Vile who have offered to take on the burden of helping me keep this forum clean. Let's hope they never need to exercise their new responsibilities!
Re: A call for Moderators
Glad to be of whatever small janitorial service I may.

Strewth, this is the third webcomic forum I've become a mod on... Well... One of them is out of commission now, but Flipside is still going strong.

Never-the-less, grats on your first spammer pelt Vile. I hope I pick mine up soon (Alright, I hope the forum simply doesn't get spammed but in the case it does, I hope I can appear useful.

Re: A call for Moderators
By the way, I don't remember because it's been a while since I registered, but are there any anti-spammer measures in place there? You know, visual recognition codes, questions like, "are you a spambot", that sort of thing. There's also the last resort option of requiring all forum registrations to be personally approved, but that might be even more work than just permabanning spammers when they appear.
Also, I saw someone complain that they had to register to read the forums, is that true? If so I'd advise switching off that feature, nothing seems to annoy people more than not being able to look at threads in a forum. Conversely, seeing what's there encourages more people to register.

Re: A call for Moderators
Actually I fixed that a few weeks ago. People should now be able to read the forum without logging in.
There is also a simple image recognition test to catch spambots. I tried switching to a more aggressive version but people started complaining that they couldn't register at all so I reverted to the normal system.
