I've played with Ldraw and the like a little bit, but I don't use it much myself. Some people do use it to document their builds (Peter Morris and Gambort to name a couple off the top of my head). I prefer to work with physical bricks, and when I finish a build I usually want to move on to the next one rather than bother rebuilding it in the computer. But some people really like the digital bricks.

Ldraw offers some advantages (like unlimited parts) and disadvantages (especially if you are working with strange angles). It's worth toying around with. Be sure to download the "unofficial" parts to get a more complete catalog of pieces to use.

I'm mainly waiting for Klotz (KDE4 version of kldraw) to finally be released, since the other ldraw stuff looks to be a tad nontrivial to install and/or compile.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen much of any news about it since it first showed up in the KDE commit digest.
