"Global Illumination" is a 3D rendering technique that simulates how direct lights bounce off diffuse surfaces, meaning that every object in the scene becomes a secondary source of light. It's much more realistic and visually pleasing, but also has a major impact on render times. My goal is to keep render times under 10 minutes per panel (on average), so I leave GI off and fake the effect using soft area lights.
