There are disadvantages to flying a ship that's "one-of-a-kind". Ordinarily, the computer would be able to scan the debris field, put it all together like a 3D jigsaw, and then identify whether any parts of the hull (eg: life-pods) are unaccounted for, but this is only possible when you know the exact configuration of the ships involved.
