Before anyone sends angry e-mails, let me point out that we don't actually need oxygen to speak - we just need air moving into and out of the lungs. If we can find a way to survive without inhaling oxygen, then we can speak quite happily in an oxygen-starved atmosphere, as long as there's some kind of gaseous medium to work with.
