Gotta love subverting the trope.

Our heroes aren't guaranteed to be able to walk up to an alien computer console and just magically understand how to use it!
Some pithy statement goes here.

Love this page. We already knew Kari can handle shipboard weapons, but it's good to see that there's no Star Trek-like "Oh, I just need to tap *here* and everything will work just right" to the interface. Fighter pilot training probably includes enough knowledge on weapons and sensors to handle standard systems (I can typically figure out a naval military radar in short order, even though I've only ever *used* a much simpler commercial one) but between the specialist nature of her training and the situation she's been in for so long, it's not surprising that she wouldn't know every portion of the tactical display of an ultra-modern, custom-built starship. Besides, this ship is probably from a technology base unfamiliar to her.

Hell, there might be upgrades to fighters that would surprise her by now; imagine how much a WW2 pilot (used to gunsights) would understand about laser-guided missiles like we have today. The technology probably hasn't advanced that far yet, but war does have a tendency to push the technological edge, and she probably hasn't been able to keep up with everything. That reminds me, what happened to Kari's fighter during/after the big encounter where Niobe's crew was captured?

What will people think when they learn that I'm a genius freak?
What will people do when they find that it's true?

Laughed so hard when I read that title. Comic brilliant as always.

The expression on Sarah's face in response to Kari is priceless.

What would have been even more subversive (and possibly funnier) is each console being secured against casual access. In other words, the crew has to "login" at the beginning of their shift before using the consoles, and they logged out before leaving the ship. So the Niobids sit down at the consoles and go "WHAT? Enter password? NEED RETINA SCAN?? @#$%! Sarah!! A little help here!" Sarah: "Um the ship's WiFi net is asking for authentication too, this is gonna take a while." Rest of the crew: "@#$&%!"

Of course, this could greatly delay their escape, which would cause more problems, but it would be more "realistic". As much as that word can be said to apply to a sci-fi series.

I agree, one of my favourite things about CD is the way David handles the expressions - it's one of the tricky bits in comics in any format. Believe me, after just re-reading the Marvel UK Star Wars comics from the early 80s, I can really appreciate David's skill.

If the crew have to log in and out of their work stations every time, there's not problem - all of them will have clicked "Yes" whan asked "Do you want to save your password?"!

Oh. I like the ship. A little light on weapons, but that could just be the weapons shown.

Loving the Scar, it's a beautiful ship. And I also love the weird console troubles, it's just brilliant storytelling.
