Some kinetic weapons could be perfectly safe to use on spaceships - use frangible ammo or a small caliber, something that won't put holes in the hull - but it's also possible that Larissa's father is just a dumbass who bought the biggest gun he could find.

Speaking of guns, I can't help but notice that none of our would-be pirates have any weapons. Didn't Kari pick up a pistol a while back?

Given that there are alternatives, it's probably better and easier to have a law just stating "no kinetic weapons". Less potential for various loopholes...

Good point! The moment things were getting thicker, our team should really get some guns...

Bold move, Doctor...

... ... ... and it paid off, too. I would have liked to see one strip where the JAK turns around and looks behind him, then turns back to see Whisper just in time for his demise.

Use of kinetic weapons in space has been addressed in Babylon 5 very well, and I am pretty sure it applies here as well. Not only kinetic weapons pose hazard of hull breach (in case of larger caliber), but also even smaller calibers can cause unpredictable ricochets in small enclosed environments, such as space ships.

Dis or dat? Choose wisely.
Not at gunpoint.
Larissa may be right in general, but asking that kind of question while wielding a gun removes any choice.

After all, the captain does not know Larissa and their friends. He may think they are going to kill him if he gives a wrong answer.

I think the question was kinda rhetoric to begin with. She might as well have said "you better cooperate, or else..." but this way it sounded smarter.
Either way, the gunpoint is important as it means the captain can later claim he did whatever he did under duress, without getting into too much troubles with his next job... (although probably under another employer)
If there is too little pressure and he cooperates he might be charged with piracy.

There's still a lot of subtle signals in the exact wording and the level of cooperation the captain may or may not be chosing to show. Either way, he can consider his current contract kinda terminated, so its the future that now counts.

Well, we now know that piracy charges aren't a serious risk. It's not piracy to take possession of a ship you own. Technically, since her dad is using her ship without her uncoerced permission, he's the one who committed piracy (in addition to kidnapping). Her threatening serious injury is a little more grey, but since she's threatening a kidnapper/extortionist (who has effectively confessed to her his crime through threats against her husband) to free his victim, while it may not be proper for a law enforcement officer and would result in any confession or resulting evidence being invalid, it's unlikely a jury would convict her of assault (or at least any decent judge would give her a suspended sentence).

Larissa, you married someone named "Vaegyr." You're in no position to make fun of peoples' names.

Also, the captain got an art update. Looking good!

That's some beautifully subtle face work there; his growing smile as he hears her voice :D

I really want to credit you for how far the comic has come. I've always enjoyed it, so this is not a criticism of the past. But Larissa and Vaegyr's faces have developed so well. Congrats to how your skills have always improved and developed and the dedication you've made to your craft.

Also, here's to hoping Alkaran Egedar becomes an ascended extra or something. A name like that has to go places (unless played by Sean Bean).
