In that case Kari would likely still curse herself for standing by and letting someone else pull the trigger. The problem is there are no bloodless options here.

If they just concentrate on taking down the gunboats, they either they get destroyed in the process, or taken down by the behemoth after taking out the gunboats - and then the behemoth and any surviving gunboats destroy the station and anyone escaping. They could just run, but then everyone else at the station dies anyway.

No matter what choice they make, those civilians in the control center will be just as dead, it's just a matter of how many others die with them. Kari has yet to fully accept this.

Disabling the ops .. sure fine but shouldnt it be possible to archive the same result by killing the power to the center instead of killing everybody inside? Yes its more compicated but they are quite capable and have the schematics soo should be doable.

It feels a bit forced for me ^^ so registed just to leave this comment xD

I'm guessing they don't have time for "more complicated". Another gunboat is bearing down on them, and they probably have time for just one pass at the ops center before the gunboat gets them in its sights and opens fire.

Standing by and pulling a trigger is a big difference mentally!

How would you kill the power to the command center from outside? I would expect the power center and/or some backup batteries to be located somewhere deep within the station. But then, I would expect the command center itself to be located somewhere deep as well...

But not necessarily in the same location. If the station designer(s) had even an ounce of tactical sense, the command center and the power center would both be deep with the station, but some distance apart along the length (circumference?) of the station. And taking out the power center would likely cut power to the weapons the controller needs direct access to for defending the station - which you will recall was the point of taking out the command center in the first place.

But long power cables would be a weak point so they'd probably have local backups in the command center.

But if you cut away every possible cable to the command center, the station will *think* the command center is down, even if it is not.
You might need to turn on WiNi inhibittors too...

If you wanted to sabotage the station and had a ton of time (and probably resources) to prepare, that could work.
Obviously this is not applicable here...

The command center is there?

First, it doesn't look like command center at all. More like the second-last floor in some random skyscraper.

Second, it is probably the most exposed location on the whole station! In case of a battle, it could be easily taken out, even by accident, by some random ship debris or explosion. For example, I am sure that if Ophelia tried to ram this station instead of Espenson Station, it could take out the command center no problem...

Security through obscurity. People looking for the valuable gem in a pile of rocks will miss it if the appearance of the gem matches the rocks.

This is probably the worst kind of security. I am sure that it is not hard to find the command center location when you are on the station. The stuff must come a go there every day...
