What could be worse news than this? The Syndicate showing up?

- Well, there could be people in the pylons Kari shot at. Not in the ships, but in the pylons.
- Maybe the station cannot seal the damaged sections and air from the whole station is being sucked into space. Although with the station of this size, it will take some time if there are not too many punchholes...
- Someone is locking on the Kari's ship (what's their name? I forgot...). The Behemoth or one of other ships not understanding who is the real enemy. Or the station itself with its hacked inventory?
- The orbit is deteriorating because of the high-velocity impacts from above and it will burn in the atmosphere in a few hours... or minutes... and make a big crater on the surface as well. And the station being in lockdown is unable to correct this, even if its thrusters are operational

My guess would be a Cirin fleet showing up.

Now that would be an interesting development...
But really, I do not think that they need the reinforcements. What for?

That behemoth is obviously the right tool against large targets like capital ships and space stations (especially when heavily armored), but probably not very effective against a dispersed fleet of small ships all making evasive maneuvers around a gravity well (AFAIK a railgun can only shoot straight ahead).

Apparently they have those boats to deal with that :)

But a fixed railgun shouldn't be a problem either when at distance. You can move 100m away, but that will translate into a really small angle of rotation for a ship at a distance.

If you want to evade you need to:
- Get really close, that that the turret cannot track you
- Evade after the projectile has been shot. But given its high velocity that may not be easy either.

But the physical bullet of a railgun moves slower than energy weapons so you can't get too far away or you won't be able to predict where they'll be in a few seconds when the bullet reaches them.

It still moves pretty fast. Today we are able to send projectiles at 2.4km/s. I presume in the far future of CD it will be much faster.

If, say, 10km/s is the speed you can achieve with the future railgun and your target is 50km away, you have 5 seconds to change your speed. In 5s with 1g acceleration you will move 113m away. Will it be enough? I don't know the exact size of Strix, but Niobe was 181m wide and 208m long...

Obviously, in a combat situation, you probably want to pull something more than 1g. But on the other hand, neither Niobe nor Strix are fighters; they are not that maneuverable...

Yeah but 50km is very short in space. From the ground that's not even half way to space.

Even if they were firing them at 90% the speed of light (in which case each impact would be a nuclear explosion) they're still going to be at a disadvantage vs a weapon that fires at the speed of light.
