I think the recruitment drives of each nation are a good indication. We've heard recently that recruitment for the Cirins is off the scale and they only lack the ability to train them and the ships to give them. However the Darani have indicated that public support for the war has been wanning, so much so that they're creating stories just to encourage sign-ups. Plenty of ships but no-one to pilot them and the existing pilots are taking longer service rounds to make up the shortfall.

Certainly the Daranir government and military appear to all be the bad guys in this, however they were certainly attacked and provoked into it by someone. Be it corrupt military officials, the UTC, the Souri or the Creer Syndicate, they were hurt bad during a time of tensions when the leader was preparing to try and ease those tensions.

The Cirin government are no innocents in all this though. As we've seen, corruption is rife in their order, probably more so in the political wing, and while the Daranir government/military appear fairly united in their stance against the Cirins, the Cirins seem to have a government system that involves alot of intrigue, back stabbing and political maneuvering for personal gain (not saying the Daranir don't have that, they just don't seem to have it as badly... possibly because of an iron-fist rule by the top order). The government officials are likely more interested in covering up their own corruption from the public than trying to hide whatever naughty tricks the military are pulling.

It'd be interesting to see what would happen if the tables were turned and the Cirins held some Darani planet under foot.

I can't help but feel that Whisper's origins with the Creer syndicate in Daranir are somehow the solution to all of this. Its a pitty the story is ending and we may never know the full details behind her amazing potential before the home accident. I'm still hoping for a published novel in the near/distant future from David though

Ha ha, poor Kari. Celebrity of two star nations now, wonder how many recruits are gonna be vying to get into her training program? (Which I'm fairly sure she'll take on, but you never know.) I would agree with the newscaster though. Kari Tyrell was likely responsible for the survival of more refugees than any single person involved in the siege, and if her plea to Stardust is public knowledge I can't see how it wouldn't be an enormous boost to Cirin morale and their international reputation. She's as true a hero as could ever be.

What did Vaegyr say, heroism is a blessed mix of luck and looks? I couldn't disagree with him more in Kari's case. Courage, passion, and a healthy dose of honor, more like. Hell, she's probably responsible more than any other single person for actually ending the war!

Sigh... I'm really going to miss Crimson Dark. Now that I think of it, I've never come across a finer science fiction webcomic in all my life. Thanks for the memories David, and good luck in all your endeavors. I think Old Republic is going to be an order of magnitude better with you on board, hope I get to see some of your awesome storytelling again when I eventually get to put on my Jedi robes.

Agreed, it's goign to be sad to see it finish. I do hope it gets picked up again from time to time. My personal dream job would have time for me to play with a personal play space of an international interspace universe, but I respect David for making the decision he has, and to finish the product in the way he has chosen to, and in his own time.

Much better than things being left hanging like Jump Leads, Heroes Inc., and Purgatory Tower.

Dear David,

Many thanks for starting the journey, going the distance and letting us tag along for the ride. I came here via the Whedonesque post when you had the Firefly crew poster.

My only criticism, if ever there could be one, is you spoiled us back in the day with 3 posts a week. In hindsight, better to have stuck to 2 a week and drawn it out, we'd still have more to come.

Congratulations on your personal journey to date, I'm sure all your family are very proud.

Have fun in Texas (they really think differently there!), don't drive on the left and look left 1st when crossing the street.

Thank you for being willing to share Crimson Dark with all of us. It has been a bright spot during the week and will be sorely missed.

You changed my opinion of 3D rendered webcomics. All too often the quality is very poor and hard to see past. I had thought it was just a problem with the format. Having watched Crimson Dark for the past couple of years I have realized that it was that I had never watched a master at work.

Even to the last page you had me laughing at the dialoge. I do not know if that was your intent, but I could always count on Crimson Dark to make me smile.

I will be waiting if you ever return CD.

David, thanks for the best web comic I have ever read. Not only did you bring to life an amazing cast of humans while giving us enough spaceship-and-explosions eye candy to give all of our eyeballs toothache, you gave us the unintentional bonus of being able to follow your story from the downs to the ups (and ups and ups). It's been a great ride, and I'm as sad as every one of your fans that it kind-of has to end here.

Here's to your future, and hoping you get rich and famous enough to be able to kick back and render some more pages sometime!

I think I've already written some meaningful messages back when you first announced the new job and that CD would be coming to a conclusion (as a web comic at least). I'm feeling lazy so go back and read them if needs be

Seriously though. I'm looking forward to hearing about updates in regards to future Crimson Dark stories, novels and adventures be they with the Niobids or some other poor rag-tag group trying to make their way in the CD universe.
