Re: Official "Discuss the latest page" thread

I am expecting this one to have its own set of quirks. I bet Hal wishes they had made the swap much earlier though.

Re: Official "Discuss the latest page" thread

That certainly would be a great "last flight of the Niobe". Edit: Heh, I know that those freighters are common, but really, parked at the same airlock as last time. Actually from a practical standpoint it makes sense that a couple of airlocks would see the majority of freighter traffic. I only notic...

Re: Official "Discuss the latest page" thread

Last action: Coerced into a relationship with Whisper while under the influence of drugs. I got a great laugh out of that line, just priceless! Hal was the resident engineer and Daniel is the resident medic/doctor. Sarah was replaced by Whisper in my view, so even though they would not mind having ...

Re: Official "Discuss the latest page" thread

For long range you might have to use a burst mechanism as opposed to a constant stream. The Daimyo was far enough away that they had not yet heard the broken distress call. I presume they would have responded if they had receieved that message. Oh and I miss typed, I had meant the captain of the Hel...

Re: Regarding FTL in the World of Crimson Dark

Sure... I somehow get the credit by being first... Anyways the other important factor is how well they can experiment within riftspace and the transitions to and from riftspace. Dr. Feingold is quoted as saying that all the scientists in the world could easily spend the rest of their lives to just s...

Re: Regarding FTL in the World of Crimson Dark

I actually think of sails when the statement about infancy was first mentioned by David. Humanity did have sails for a couple of millennia but it took that several millennia to come up with both a design for ships and sails that work well across deep ocean. The people promoting new ship designs and ...

Re: Official "Discuss the latest page" thread

Considering the Daimyo was able to receive their message and arrive in short order to rescue them from their first run in with the Helikaon, I would wager that the transmission is pretty much instantaneous. It also must not be the same tech as a 'wave' as the Niobe was jammed but still able to send ...

Re: Regarding FTL in the World of Crimson Dark

As far as I have gathered a single large stabilizer seems to work best for longer jumps. Greater efficiency or something of the like. Where as a smaller stabilizer/profile is better for short range jumps. I recall David saying that even after a couple hundred years of using the technology it is stil...

Re: Official "Discuss the latest page" thread

Not that we have any reference points to how long jumps are for what distances but it appears to me that Mensk planned a long escape jump. I had initially thought the jump would be to null space nearby where they could then jump to an actual system. That actually is my gripe with any universe where ...
