Whisper's response is oddly...human...for her. As is her forbearance in responding to what she would previously have perceived as a dig at her strangeness, and probably gone far out of her way to rub his face in it. That she didn't in this case is jarring.

Stuff like this map reminds me of the incredible amount of background that has to go BEFORE the story even starts. So it's NASA who should get the bird that the rabid hamster is flipping. I fully expected them to ignore any extraneous suggestions, but foolishly I did think they'd go with the highest voted of their own suggestions!

Geez, four hours a day travel? And that's presumably when Sydney trains are running...on time...or at all... Not knowing much about your situation, that jumps out at me as one area where things could be flexible? Either reduced or by making use of that time? Obviously relocating isn't an option or y...
